There have been quite a few new Christmas songs released this year by modern artists. Some are covers of classic, much loved Christmas songs and others are brand new!
So I thought I would write a post about some of my favourites! I would love to hear your thoughts too, so please feel free to leave a comment below!
So one of my favourite new Christmas songs this year, as much as it pains me to say, is Taylor Swift’s ‘Christmas Tree Farm’. It is quite an upbeat song with a lovely warm cosy feel to it and I can’t help but sing along whenever I hear it play.
I have to admit my absolute favourite Christmas cover song this year is by the amazing John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. The two incredible artists came together to create their very own rendition of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and it is absolutely brilliant. A lot of you may be aware that the original version of this song was hit with some very negative comments a couple of years ago in regards to the lyrics; so much so that there were people wanting to boycott the song altogether. So John Legend and Kelly Clarkson have changed the lyrics and completely revamped the song! I have to say I do love the original version, but this cover is insanely good. Not only are the new lyrics great, but the two artists both have incredibly beautiful voices that work perfectly together. I highly recommend listening to this.
Another new song this Christmas comes from the wonderful Lukas Graham, it is called ‘Here (this Christmas)’ and it is a very emotional song. I feel as though there are a lot of people who will relate in some way to the lyrics of this beautiful song, I know I certainly did. This song has made me cry my eyes out; you have been warned! But it is beautiful and it is one of my favourite releases this year. He sings about missing a loved one at Christmas time who has passed away, it is filled with so much love and emotion and it really hit close to home for me. I do recommend giving this a listen, but maybe have some tissues at hand!
So they are my top three new Christmas songs of 2019! Now let’s take a look at three of my favourite Christmas classics.
I think this is a no brainer when I say ‘Fairytale of New York’ by The Pogues is my all time favourite Christmas song, as it is for many! It is such a great song, everyone knows the words, it is not your typical happy go lucky Christmas song yet everyone seems to smile when they’re singing along.
One of my other favourite Christmas classics is ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham! Another popular favourite amongst others. As soon as it comes on everyone knows what song it is, it’s a song you can sing your heart out too especially if you’re going through a breakup or a similar scenario to what the lyrics suggest.
My third and final Christmas classic for this list is ‘Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time’ by Paul McCartney. This song will forever remind me of the movie ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’ an animated Christmas movie that was my absolute favourite as a kid. I still adore this film and simply have to watch it every year during the festive season. It is a great song, it is catchy and happy and all round brilliant.
I love Christmas so much and Christmas music always sets my spirits high! What are some of your favourites to listen to?
