Favourite Festive Films

There are so many Christmas movies out there! You have the old classics as well as the new releases and even some hidden gems. Here are some of my favourites… let me know yours in the comment section below.

It’s A Wonderful Life (1997)

This is a well known classic and definitely worth watching if you have not already seen it. It may not be your typical Christmas movie filled with Christmas cheer from start to finish but it is wonderful, eye-opening, heart-warming and tear-jerking!

The Home Alone Movies (1990 – 2012)

The Home Alone movies are comical and packed with excitement from start to finish! Great family films and a personal favourite for Jacob at this time of year. I have to say, I think the first two movies are the best in the series by far… but that is just my personal opinion.

Elf (2003)

Elf is a great family film! Filled with comedy and lots of Christmas cheer. Over the years this movie had become the centre of Christmas themed memes and has been quoted from for quite some time. It is even in selected cinemas this year during the festive period!

Polar Express (2004)

Now this one has to be my absolute favourite! I know it is a children’s film, but it is filled with Christmas spirit and finding the meaning of Christmas and bringing back the magic of believing! It is a story that I absolutely love, not only is it heart-warming and adventurous, but it also has musical numbers! What more could you want from a Christmas film?

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Another great children’s/family film! I love how this movie is filled with comedy and Christmas spirit… but it also comes with an important lesson for children too. You should never judge a book by its cover, you should be kind to others… and sometimes, people just need someone to sit and hear them out!

Gremlins (1984)

This is an old classic, one that I loved when I was a kid. It is full of comedy, mischief and chaos. I always wanted my own little ‘Mogwai’, they are are just so cute… when you follow the rules of course!
I think everyone should watch this movie, in fact, it is so good that selected cinemas are showing during the holidays!

Prancer (1989)

Another lovely movie! This one focuses on a beautiful creature, found, rescued and cared for by a little girl. But this is no ordinary animal… it turns out to be one of Santa’s magic reindeer. A movie filled with love and kindness and a little bit of magic! Great for all of the family.

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

This is a new Netflix film that was released last year. It is a brilliant family film filled with adventure and fun as well as lots of Christmas cheer! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie and I will definitely we watching it again during the last week, leading up to Christmas Day!

Holiday in the Wild (2019)

This movie was released on Netflix this year! It is not a very Christmassy film, but it a good one! It follows a young woman to South Africa as she ventures on her second honeymoon alone after her husband walks out on her. She rekindles her love of animals and puts her veterinary skills to the test and works on finding herself again. A lovely film with a touching message at the end. Definitely worth watching.

The Holiday Calendar (2018)

This is a very good Christmas film, with lots of Christmas cheer to get you in the mood for the holidays. A young lady is gifted with an old vintage advent calendar which reveals a new toy each day counting down to Christmas… but what do they mean?

There are a couple of other Netflix movies that I want to watch this Christmas, such as Klaus and Let It Snow, so they are on my watch list too! What are your favourite Christmas films and what new ones have made it onto your watch list?
