Today is Earth Day, which just so happens to have landed in the middle of Stationery Week! So we thought it would be interesting to combine the two topics for today’s Stationery Week post!
I have to admit, I have never looked into eco-friendly stationary before, but now that I have, I have realised that there is definitely not enough of it out there! I did come across a couple of online stationary stores that supply eco-friendly products at fairly reasonable prices; let’s take a look!
I came across The Green Stationery Company, a small local supplier of recycled paper and stationery goods based in Bath, UK. This business is a small company which began in 1989 and evolved in 1993 to offer a national service! They work by the motto ‘Small is beautiful’, they like to keep the company as small and as eco-friendly as they possibly can, in order to achieve the lowest ecological footprint.
They purchase their supplies from other local businesses and ensure to use a minimal amount of waste (one black bin bag of waste every two weeks) whilst also making sure to recycle all other materials.
I found that their products were reasonably priced. They had a good range of products, from notebooks, hardback books, refill pads, marker pens, ballpoint pens, pencils, erasers, refillable pens, highlighters, files and binders and also desk top accessories for organisation of your stationary and work.
I was quite impressed by their range of products and I will definitely be ordering from them in the future! You can check out their website here.
Another online store that I came across was a larger store knows as The Green Office. Here you can purchase a large range of eco-friendly office supplies for reasonable prices, you can purchase a pack of 20 ballpoint pens for just £1.27! Not only can you purchase writing essentials but you can find everything that you need for your office or work space, from books, folders, arts and craft supplies, planners, luggage, storage equipment, printer ink and more! You can check out their website here.
I have to say I was rather disappointed by the lack of eco-friendly stationary stores available.
Our Co-Founder, Molly-Jane, found out that UCLan university in Preston host secondhand stationery stalls for their students so that they can freely access essential stationary products such as ring binders, that other students no longer need. I thought that was a great idea and other universities (if they do not already do something similar) should definitely follow suit. Not only is it a great way to encourage students to re-use products, rather than throwing them away but it also helps them to save a bit of money! Some students struggle to get hold of all of the essentials that they need for their studies, based on their personal budget, so this is a great idea to help students as well as helping the environment.
If you know of any other good, eco-friendly, stationery stores, please tell us about them in the comments below!
