October Favourites

Aimee here! I have never written a monthly favourites post before, so my apologies if it is a little bit slow. I should also warn you that this is a long one… so you might want to grab yourself a brew before you start!

October this year was not as expected. Nothing has really been as expected this year! Usually, my October would be filled with Autumn walks, coffee dates, meeting friends and of course, celebrating Halloween in style!

This year, the walks and coffee dates were kept to a minimum and sadly there was no meeting up with friends. However, when it came to Halloween; we still celebrated in style… in fuzzy onesies, with homemade Halloween treats and scary movies!

This was definitely the highlight of the month for me. It was really nice spending Halloween with our household, it is definitely a bonus living with my fiancé and two of our good friends.

It was fun baking cupcakes too! I like to bake, it is something that I am fairly good at but I never do it enough. Halloween this year has made me want to bake more often!

In regards to some of my favourite purchases this month, they are all pretty much clothes! First up is this cute fluffy crop top from New Look, coming in at £12.99. It has been a while since I felt confident wearing cropped tops, especially if they are tight fitted. Over the last 6-8 weeks, I have been going to the gym 3-4 times a week and although this is not enough time to see a dramatic change; I have started to notice some positive changes in my body! So I am hoping that over the next couple of months, these changes will be even more noticeable and therefore I have started to buy the clothes that I want to wear, in the hope that I will feel good when wearing them!

Another favourite purchase is this cute orange cropped jumper from Missguided. I cannot remember the exact price of this one but it was under £8! I ordered this simply for the autumn colour as I was originally planning to wear it with some adorable pumpkin stockings (also from Missguided) and a black skirt for our Halloween quiz night. However, when it arrived, I loved it so much that I wore it instantly and decided that it was much better than a Halloween costume!

Next up is a green jumper from Primark that I believe was £8. It is super comfy, loose fitted and feel quite Autumny too! I paired this with my favourite dark blue jeans, my teddy jacket and my white Adidas trainers. I always feel so cosy in this teddy jacket too! I purchased this last year and I am most definitely on the hunt for a new one this year!

My last item of clothing on this list is a beige longline hoodie from Matalan. This was £12.50 at the time of purchase and although the material is thin, it is very soft and very comfortable to wear. I also like that the material is thin as this makes it the perfect item to wear when piling on those Autumn layers. I wore this wish some cute beige trainers from Primark (£10), a nice red and navy blue checked scarf.

I did have one nice Costa coffee date with my fiancé, which I really loved. Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that mean the most to us. We went for a lovely walk around a local park, taking pictures of the fallen leaves and all of their pretty colours. To top it off, we picked up a Costa to take out. As well as being super tasty, it also warmed up my hands, so it is a win win situation! I am looking forward to another Costa date next week to try out their new Christmas menu!

Lastly, I want to talk about Animal Crossing! Now I know this may not be for everyone, but this game has been a life saver for me and has definitely kept me sane that is for sure. Back in September, Nintendo released an Autumn/Fall update! This included being able to purchase pumpkin seeds from Tom Nooks and create your own adorable pumpkin patches as well as being able to purchase one piece of candy per day throughout October, ready to share with your villagers on Halloween night!

The Animal Crossing Halloween event was really fun and as always, really cute! There was a mysterious guest on my Island called Jack, who gave you exclusive Halloween items for sharing candy with him. On top of this, every time you give a villager a piece of candy, they would also give you a gift in exchange! When one of your villagers gives you a lollipop, you take it to Jack who give a big gift as a thank you. I also loved how my villagers would run up to me to shout ‘Trick-or Treat!’ in the hope that I would give them candy.

When I ran out of candy pieces, I had to turn one of my villagers away… and by my surprise they actually ‘tricked’ me! They cursed my character in a puff of spooky purple smoke and when the smoke lifted, my characters skin colour was a strange colour and had cute Halloween face paint on my cheeks! It was definitely a fun little feature.

Here are some snaps of my Island over the Halloween Season!

I’m butting in at the end of this post just to add a few little favourites of my own, hence why this post has ended up so long.

My first favourite on my little list, is a mug from Asda. It was a part of the Disney Villain range that a few supermarkets seemed to adopt this year for Halloween (no complaints here!!).

Anyone who has met me finds out very quickly that I cannot function of a morning without coffee – a habit I have tried and failed multiple times to stop. I also have a habit of trying to prove people wrong, so this mug was a perfect fit for early-starts on blog work.

From what I can tell from the Asda website, it is no longer available but it might be worth having a quick look if you use Asda for your big food shop, if it’s safe for you to go.

My second favourite of the month is this t-shirt from hmv (£14.99).

I. Love. Dragon Ball, and Vegeta (who is on this t-shirt) is one of my favourite characters. As soon as I saw this tshirt, my impulse spending kicked in, and I think it’s one of the only times I have not felt panicked or felt any anxiety about a spending decision. It’s a really soft material and is so, so comfy.

What’s even more, what happens in the Majin/Buu saga with Vegeta is one of my favourite moments in the entire series (I’ve not reached it yet but I have been shown it), so this t-shirt is my ultimate nerd-out for Vegeta. I’m going to stop this bit here before this post just becomes me gushing about Dragon Ball.

I can’t seem to find the link to this item, but I adore this shirt from Sainsbury’s (£14). For someone who loves Halloween, I don’t have many Halloween clothes other than costumes. I thought this shirt was so adorable and the – in the words of Aimee – “Halloweenies” were a huge selling point, as well at the little pumpkins. I wasn’t aware until a few days later that it had cats on it too and it made me fall in love with it even more.

I usually feel very uncomfortable in shirts, so I’m glad I have one I feel comfortable wearing. With it being sheer, I would suggest wearing a bralette or a vest top underneath, but I do really like this shirt and I feel really professional if I’m wearing it while doing work on the blog.

I don’t really have much to say about this product, but I’d just like to give a little shout out to my sequin cushion I bought in Sainsbury’s the same day I bought my shirt. I usually have the sequins that spell “witch” showing, and the back of it is really soft and the cushion itself is super squishy. I was hugging it very tightly while watching horror movies on Halloween.

Another thing I’ve absolutely loved this month (and still do, obviously) is this Sailor Moon glass from hmv (£9.99 – straw and juice not included). Again, I can’t seem to find a link to it, but I would assume you can find this – or something similar – online somewhere.

I recently started reading the manga (really enjoying it so far) and there are so many items of cute merch that I’ve been so tempted to buy – especially of the cats, Luna and Artemis – but I haven’t because I’ve never really known much about Sailor Moon as a whole. So after finally beginning the first volume, I decided to buy this glass. While I bought it because it’s pink (my favourite colour, for those who don’t know), I didn’t really have any proper drinking glasses, so I thought this would be a nice little addition to my kitchenware.

With Aimee including the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fall update/Halloween event in her favourites, I thought I would add the Splatoon 2 Halloween Splatfest event into mine – also known as Splatoween!!

For those who are confused about what I’m talking about, a ‘Splatfest’ is an event that usually runs for 24 hours where two teams battle it out to see who is the ultimate winner. Previous Splatfests have included: mustard vs. ketchup (what’s the better condiment?); chicken vs. egg (which came first?); and, in the case of this Splatfest, trick vs. treat. This Splatfest was a bit different in that ‘Inkopolis’ – the place Splatoon is set – was completely decorated and it was one of the special 42 hour events.

When I got Splatoon 2, I never got the chance to play any of the early Splatfests – the three events I have already mentioned being some of them. For me to finally take part in ‘Splatoween’ was a huge deal. Splatoon 2 is one of my favourite games and I got it very late on in its initial run. Now that Nintendo seem to be re-running past Splatfests with their new system of figuring out Splatfest scores, I have been very excited to finally take part in all the events I have missed – especially Splatoween!!!

That’s it from us! I hope you all stay safe during this second lockdown and be kind to one another.

Have Hope Always,

The SeeTheUniverse Team
