I read this book as part of The Breakfast Book Club!
I was very unsure about this one at first and it took me a little while to get into… but the further into the book that I got, the more I enjoyed it.
The format of this book was interesting, flashing between different time frames so that you get some information about the main characters upbringing as well as her mothers upbringing and key events that happened to the both of them up until the present day.
By doing this, the author helped the reader to see what had lead the main character to be the way that they are and the decisions that they made along the way.
This book did touch upon some very sensitive topics, although they were in short bursts, some people may find this distressing to read.
Some of the trigger warnings include:
- Child abuse
- Child molestation
- Pedophilia
- Rape
- Incest
- Infidelity
If you need to avoid these areas, I would advise against reading this book.
I did find this book difficult to read at times, I was grateful that the harder scenes were kept short, however the details given were still quite upsetting.
Overall, I did think that this book was a good read and I would recommend it to others.
I could not tell which way the story was going, nor could I decide which way I wanted the story to go! It kept me engaged throughout and was a very good storyline to follow.
