National Novel Writing Month – An introduction

Novels are one of the greatest ways to enhance a persons knowledge and understanding. Reading not only widens a persons vocabulary, but can introduce them various scenarios, circumstances, emotions, challenges and even mysteries. Novels have been around for a long time and they will not be going anywhere any time soon.

It is believed that the first novel ever written was published around 1000 years ago. The novel in question is: The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, a Japanese novelist and poet… and it may come as a surprise to learn that this author was in fact a woman!

As a kid, I really enjoyed reading! You used to find me curled up in the book corner in my primary school classroom and my name was always at the top of the readers tree for most pages / books read!
As I got older, I started to read less and less, until eventually I was not even reading one book per year. Then 2022 came along and I decided that I wanted to fall in love with books again; so I made a Goodreads account and set myself a challenge to read 12 books throughout the year! I definitely surprised myself when I ended the year having read 27!
So this year we have upped the goal to 30 books.

Reading has become a form of both relaxation and self-care for me over the last two years and I definitely recommend people to read more! The feeling of getting lost in a good book, being transported into another life, another world, is indescribable.
