I love a good Tandem Readalong, especially when I have been in a reading slump, as the daily reading prompts and creative challenges keep me motivated! I had not read any books by Caroline Mitchell before now, so I was excited to dive right into this one… and I was not disappointed!

The Survivors follows three main characters and is split into each of their points of view:

Finn: A young single mum to 5-week old Saorise, travelling to Doolin to meet her aunt Maura for the first time in decades. This trip comes a few short months after Finn’s mother Daisy, Maura’s twin sister, passed away.

Kathryn: Another single mother with a 4-week old baby, Kiera, travelling to Doolin as a means of escape…but what is she hiding from?

Maura: Finn’s aunt and a lonely recluse, living at the top of Misery Hill in Doolin. She seems to enjoy her own company and keeps herself to herself…

Misery Hill if often covered with thick and heavy mist and sees the worst of the rain and ice in Doolin. As a result of this, it also sees many fatal traffic accidents… and Maura, living at the top of the hill, is often the first on the scene.
But when her beloved Niece is at the forefront of one of these collisions, her short visit to Doolin becomes a much longer stay. This brings a lot of change for Maura and the secrets that she has been holing onto for many years are at risk of being exposed.

Kathryn is the other victim of the brutal collision on Misery Hill, and she recovers from her injuries she starts having flashbacks of the accident and realises that everything is not as it seems… can she uncover the truth of what really happened out there?

This book was filled with twists, turns, suspenseful cliffhangers and much more. I loved how Caroline switched between each of the characters throughout, giving you various POVs and always leaving you wanting more! Both Kathryn and Maura have dark and twisted secrets which slowly come to light as you go on… and just when you think you know all the answers, another plot twist comes out of nowhere! Finn is left in a state, as she tries to put together the pieces of her Aunts troubled past to reveal the truth… but will her snooping cause a stir?
I really was hooked on this book from beginning to end, so much so, that I would say The Survivors is my number one book for 2024! I cannot wait to read more books by Caroline Mitchell!
